GL Assessment-Style 11+ Mock Exams (Henrietta Barnett)

The test papers for SDE's GL-style 11+ Mock Exam Paper Sets have been written by SDE under the guidance of Susan Daughtrey MEd, the 11+ tutor and author, to help girls who are preparing to write the Verbal Reasoning, English and Non-Verbal Reasoning Henrietta Barnett Round One 11+ tests by GL Assessment.

What Is The Agenda for each 11+ Mock Exam

  • For each Mock Exam Paper Set there is one GL-style test (i.e GL-style format, questions, timing and administration) containing Verbal, Non-Verbal Reasoning and English questions only (no Maths).
  • The test is multiple-choice.
  • Your daughter will be given a question paper (on which she can write her working out) and a separate multiple-choice answer sheet for her answers.
  • The test will be administered with the use of audio administration which will, among other things, read out the Instructions and Examples and time each Section.
  • The test will take approximately 90 minutes to administer (and will contain approximately 70 minutes of 'questions that count' – the remaining time is spent listening to the audio instructions and completing the Practice questions set out in the short Practice Section which precedes each of the three main subject Sections).

What Features Are Included?

  • SDE's test papers contain questions which Susan Daughtrey M.Ed expects to be of a similar style and level of difficulty to the questions on the real GL Assessment® 11+ tests for Henrietta Barnett 11+ candidates.
  • Students are encouraged to write their working out on the actual question paper (which is securely shredded and recycled after the Paper Set) as they will be permitted to write their working out on the real GL Assessment 11+ test papers.
  • Students are instructed to record all their answers on the separate multiple-choice answer sheet.
  • The answer sheets are marked accurately and quickly using electronic scanning technology (known as 'Optical Mark Recognition' or 'OMR') – this enables us to disseminate the results quickly after the test and means you can be confident in the accuracy of your daughter's results.
  • The venue has been carefully appraised by SDE and found to be suitable for 11+ Mock Exams.
  • There is a free car park within the school grounds for SDE parents to use (please follow the instructions that will be emailed to you nearer the time).
  • There are seven Paper Sets: Paper Sets A – G. Each letter denotes a unique set of test questions.
  • Our 11+ Mock Exam papers for Henrietta Barnett, Buckinghamshire, Kendrick, and Slough share some questions within each Paper Set letter (A-G), so booking the same letter for different exams is not recommended to ensure variety in practice; ; our website prevents duplicate question orders in a single transaction or if you ensure you are logged in before purchasing any further tests in any subsequent orders.
  • SW Herts and Latymer exams are unique and can be combined with any other exam types.

What Feedback Can I Expect?

  • As with the marking of the real 11+ tests by GL Assessment, we use Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) technology to ensure quick and accurate marking of answer sheets, allowing for prompt dissemination of results.
  • A Letter to Parents providing a detailed description of the type of questions which appeared on the test papers, a Target Mark™ and lists of the more complex vocabulary from the actual test papers;
  • List of Scores – this list contains the anonymised scores of the students who have completed the same tests. You can filter by "Current Year" or "All Time", with latter including data from any students who have completed the same test papers in past years and is probably the most comprehensive Buckinghamshire 11+ Mock Exam comparative data available anywhere;
  • Access to the unique and innovative Susan Daughtrey 11+ Dynamic Video Tuition® service, so you can see exactly which questions your child answered incorrectly and your child has the benefit of Susan Daughtrey’s explanation of how best to answer the question.

Understanding Susan Daughtrey 11+ Dynamic Video Tuition®

What It Is:

  • Included for all multiple choice 11+ Mock Exam questions.
  • A short video tutorial for each question on the test papers which your child answered incorrectly, typically 1-4 minutes duration, available to stream at home.

How It Works:

  • Tailored to address your child’s specific learning needs based on their 11+ Mock Exam performance.
  • For each incorrectly answered question, you will be provided with a link to a relevant video tutorial.

Tutorial Features:

  • Showcases the original test question and multiple-choice answers.
  • Explains techniques and methods for solving questions.
  • Demonstrates step-by-step solutions.

Usage and Advantages:

  • Videos can be paused, rewound and rewatched as often as needed.
  • Designed to help students understand and learn from their mistakes for improved performance.

Access and Intellectual Property:

  • Full 11+ Mock Exam Papers are not released to avoid circulation of the Mock Exam papers and so parents can have confidence in the integrity of the comparative data.
  • Access provided to specific incorrect answers via secure Parent Login.
  • Video tutorials are available until the 11+ exams are completed in September.
  • Enables focused practice on areas needing improvement.

To take advantage of multiple-exam discounts, you must make all bookings for the same child and in the same year. You have the option to combine Mock Exams from different venues into one convenient order.

Booking and Changes:

You can make online changes to your booking without any charge, provided it's done at least 72 hours before the exam.
