Experience
I became interested in education while studying psychology at university, having volunteered for various mentoring programmes in school settings and completing my final dissertation on learning styles and the effect of anxiety on exam scores.
Throughout my teaching career, which largely took place in a junior school, I have taken on many different roles including Head of Maths, Head of History, and a year as the special educational needs coordinator. I taught in Year 6 on many occasions so I understand the pressure children can be under around the exam period, and how important it is for them to feel confident in their knowledge and ability.
After gaining my master’s degree in history, I spent some time teaching and tutoring GCSE and A Level history, including spending a year at a secondary school for children with autism. This was incredibly rewarding and gave me a great deal of insight into learning styles and enabling young people to reach their full potential, regardless of the barriers facing them.
Education continues to be a passion for me, both in the teaching of others and in my own development.
Additional information
I particularly enjoy teaching at SDE as working with small groups of children allows me to really focus on their individual needs and personalities, and help them to thrive in a noticeable way – without the pressures and distractions of the mainstream classroom environment.
