Get Prepared
It is suggested to allow your child to reattempt the question, prior to looking at the answers or working through it again with an adult.
To allow your child to reattempt the questions and also for reference, please DOWNLOAD and PRINT, a clean copy of the Answer Sheets and the Comprehension Text (you can find links to view/download these documents above the two tables below). You will also need access to the lists of correct answers which can be viewed/downloaded from the same set of links.
your child should be sat at a desk or table, with two pencils, the printed answer sheets for both tests, the printed comprehension text and scrap paper for working out.
Use a device with a large screen. Do not use a small tablet or mobile device.
It is suggested to allow your child as long as they need to reattempt the question, rather than timing your child, as it is important to understand why your child answered the question incorrectly.
Why did your child Answer the Question Incorrectly?
If your child is able to reattempt the question and answer it correctly at home, it is likely your child made a careless error in the exam, possibly due to the pressure of working against the clock or it being your child‘s first exposure to exam hall conditions. Further exam practice will help your child to improve their exam technique. However, if your child reattempts the question and answers it incorrectly at home, this suggests your child lacks subject knowledge. In this case it suggested to revisit the question with an adult, referring to the Class Workbook or Lesson Video Tutorial for that subject as necessary. your child should understand what to do if a similar question appears on a future test before moving on to the next question.
‘Answer Given’ Column
Where you see “A”, “B”, “C”, “D” or “E”, this is the actual wrong answer submitted by your child for that question. “Multi” means your child entered more than one answer where only one answer was required, or more than two answers where only two answers were required . “Blank” means that your child did not enter an answer (exam tip: candidates should NEVER leave answer batteries blank in a multiple-choice 11+ test; if necessary, the candidate should ALWAYS enter a guess). For the Verbal Reasoning questions, the letter in the ‘Answer Given’ column refers to the answer option (A,B,C,D, E) your child selected and not the actual answer. To see which answer your child gave, you will need to cross-refer to the VR answer sheet which has also been provided for you as a download using the links below.
